Giant TCR Advanced 1 KOM — all-rounder road bike

The TCR is Giant's all-rounder race platform: light enough to climb on, stiff enough to sprint on, and stable enough to descend on. The Advanced-Grade Composite frameset sheds weight without giving up pedalling stiffness, and aero-shaped tubing plus clearance for wider tyres makes it quicker on the flats and more comfortable on rough surfaces than a pure climbing frame.

The OverDrive steerer and MegaDrive downtube sharpen the handling, while the Variant composite seatpost adds compliance where you feel it most. This KOM build runs a full Shimano Ultegra 11-speed groupset with an 11–34 cassette — a genuinely usable climbing range.

Who this bike suits

  • Good for: riders who want one road bike for everything — club runs, climbing, the occasional race. The 11–34 cassette with a 34/50 chainset gives a low enough gear for sustained Hong Kong climbs without a triple or a compact-plus setup.
  • Less suitable for: riders who want disc brakes — this build is rim-braked Ultegra. If you ride in the wet often or descend long hills loaded, look at a disc-equipped TCR instead.

Riding a road bike in Hong Kong

Hong Kong is a better road-riding city than its reputation suggests, but it is a city of climbs rather than flats. Tolo Harbour and the Tai Po to Tai Mei Tuk cycle track give traffic-free distance; Route Twisk, Tai Mo Shan and the Sai Kung peninsula give the gradients. The 11–34 cassette on this build exists for exactly that terrain.

Two practical points specific to riding here:

  • Humidity and sweat corrode drivetrains fast. Rinse and dry the bike after wet rides, and re-lube the chain more often than a European maintenance schedule suggests.
  • Storage. A full-size road bike is roughly 175 x 105 cm with the front wheel on. Check lift access and whether your building permits bikes in common areas before delivery — many estates do not.

Frequently asked questions

What groupset does the TCR Advanced 1 KOM use?

A full Shimano Ultegra 11-speed groupset — shifters, both derailleurs, brakes, levers, cassette and crankset. The chain is a KMC X11EL-1.

What gearing does it have, and is it low enough for Hong Kong hills?

A 34/50 compact chainset with an 11–34 cassette. The 34x34 bottom gear is low enough for sustained climbs like Route Twisk or Tai Mo Shan for most riders in reasonable condition.

Is it tubeless ready?

Yes. The bike ships tubeless prepared with Giant AC 1 tubeless folding tyres in 700x25c, measuring 28mm on these rims.

What is the maximum tyre size?

The frame takes tyres up to 32mm, which is useful clearance if you ride rougher New Territories surfaces or want extra comfort on long days.

Are pedals included?

No. Pedals are not supplied, which is standard for a bike at this level — most riders have a pedal and cleat system they already use.

What size should I buy?

The TCR is built in XS to XL, and the handlebar width, stem length and crank length change with the frame size, as listed in the specifications above. Frame size is the one thing worth getting right in person rather than guessing — contact us with your height and inseam before ordering and we will advise.

Is delivery free in Hong Kong?

Yes. Bikes are delivered free in Hong Kong with no minimum order. Delivery to the outlying islands is not included — please contact us for a quote.
