Who this bike suits

  • Good for: riders who want electronic shifting and deep carbon wheels without stepping up to Ultegra money. This is the build where the Propel starts to feel like a race bike rather than a fast frameset with sensible parts.
  • Less suitable for: riders who train on power and want a meter fitted as standard — that comes with the Advanced Pro 0. Riders who mostly climb will get more from the lighter TCR platform.

Hookless carbon rims — what to know

The SLR 2 50 wheels use hookless rims, which are strong and light but are only compatible with tubeless tyres approved for hookless use, and they have a lower maximum tyre pressure than a hooked rim. The bike ships with tyres matched to the rims. If you change tyres later, check hookless compatibility and the pressure limit before fitting — this is the one spec on the bike that catches people out.

Riding an aero road bike in Hong Kong

A 50mm-deep aero wheelset earns its keep on sustained speed: Tolo Harbour, the Tai Po to Tai Mei Tuk cycle track, and group riding in the New Territories. It is also more affected by crosswinds than a shallow rim, which is worth knowing on exposed sections and bridges during the monsoon.

Two practical points for riding here:

  • Humidity and sweat corrode drivetrains fast. Di2 is less affected than mechanical shifting because there are no cables to seize, but chain and cassette maintenance still needs to be more frequent than a European service schedule suggests.
  • Storage. A full-size road bike is roughly 175 x 105 cm with the front wheel on. Check lift access and whether your building permits bikes in common areas before delivery.

Frequently asked questions

What sizes is the Propel Advanced 1 available in?

Availability differs by colour: Carbon comes in S (50 cm) and M (52 cm); Meteor Storm comes in S (50 cm), M (52 cm) and ML (54.5 cm). If you need ML, Meteor Storm is the only option. Contact us with your height and inseam and we will advise.

What is the difference between the Propel Advanced 2, Advanced 1 and Advanced Pro 0?

All three share the Gen 4 Advanced-Grade Composite aero frameset. The differences are the groupset and the wheels:

  • Advanced 2 — HK$21,800: mechanical Shimano 105, Giant P-A1 alloy 38mm wheels.
  • Advanced 1 — HK$32,800: electronic Shimano 105 Di2, Giant SLR 2 50 hookless carbon wheels.
  • Advanced Pro 0 — HK$48,800: Shimano Ultegra Di2, SLR 0 50 carbon wheels, a Giant Power Pro power meter, a one-piece integrated aero cockpit and an Advanced SL-Grade fork.

Is Shimano 105 Di2 worth the step up from mechanical 105?

Di2 shifts consistently regardless of cable condition, which matters more in Hong Kong humidity than in a dry climate, and the front shift in particular is faster and more reliable under load. It needs charging every few thousand kilometres. On this build you are also paying for carbon wheels, which change how the bike rides more than the groupset does.

Is the gearing low enough for Hong Kong climbs?

The 36/52 crankset with an 11-36 cassette gives a 36x36 bottom gear — a one-to-one ratio, low enough for sustained local climbs for most riders in reasonable condition.

Are pedals included?

No. Pedals are not supplied, which is standard at this level.

Is delivery free in Hong Kong?

Yes. Bikes are delivered free in Hong Kong with no minimum order. Delivery to the outlying islands is not included — please contact us for a quote.
