TEMO POD·1000 Pack Fixed — 1.3 kW Through-Hull Electric Pod Drive
The POD·1000 in its fixed version is a through-hull electric drive for boats up to 9 metres. The 1,300 W brushless motor sits below the hull on a fixed strut and produces 30 kg of static thrust through a 27 cm two-blade propeller, giving a straight, efficient thrust line and nothing on deck or transom to look at. Steering stays with the boat's rudder. This is the version to choose when the installation is permanent and you care about how the boat looks and behaves under way.
Fixed or steerable — which POD·1000 do you need?
The fixed pod points straight ahead and the rudder does the steering, exactly as an inboard shaft drive behaves. It is the simpler installation, the cleaner hydrodynamics and the lower price of complexity. Choose the rotating version instead only if your boat has poor rudder authority at low speed or you want to manoeuvre in a marina by vectoring thrust. For most displacement cruisers with a decent rudder, fixed is the right answer.
What does installation involve?
A fixed pod is a through-hull fitting, so it is a haul-out job and should be done by a yard familiar with the hull layup. The pack itself is Plug & Play once the hull fitting is in: the electronic units are separate and connect through robust waterproof connectors, with no custom wiring looms to make up, and the whole system is CE certified and delivered ready to install. Only the motor unit sits in the water, cooled naturally — the batteries and control electronics stay inside the boat, with just the throttle and display at the helm. Budget for yard time and antifouling of the drive leg alongside the hardware cost.
How do you size the battery bank?
Batteries are not included in this pack. The SEASIDE system runs on TEMO 48 V 2.3 kWh cassettes weighing 12 kg each that rack and parallel together, so the bank is sized to the boat and can be grown later. TEMO estimate about 2 hours 50 minutes at 1,100 W from one cassette. The architecture is semi-open and accepts approved partner batteries, and TEMO can supply the system battery-free if the boat already carries a 48 V house bank. The system is also built to work with solar charging and hydrogeneration. Talk to us before ordering and we will work out the capacity with you.
