The AIRKAYAK 16 is the family boat in the ROWonAIR range and the only one that is a kayak rather than a board — 4.85 m long, 85 cm wide, rated to 250 kg and up to three people. It weighs 22.2 kg and packs into 95 × 60 × 35 cm. Its real distinction is that it takes a sliding-seat rowing system, so the same hull paddles like a tandem kayak and rows like a scull.

Who is the AIRKAYAK 16 for?

People who do not want to choose between taking the family out and getting a workout. Two adults and a child fit inside it with luggage; one adult can row it alone with a skid fitted and cover distance properly. The 250 kg load rating and three air chambers make it the most useful boat in the range for touring, and the hard-shell bow and stern sections mean it lands on a beach without flinching.

How does an inflatable kayak row like a scull?

Through the Deep Outrigger. A rowing skid — monorail, sliding seat and foot stretcher — drops into the cockpit and hooks to the D-rings, and the deep-drop outrigger carries the rowlocks out and down to the height a kayak hull needs. From there it is genuine sliding-seat sculling: six-ball-bearing seat, foot stretcher on a pivot axle, carbon sculls. Choose RowVista® to row facing forwards with blade feathering, or RowMotion® for classic reverse sculling.

Which package should you buy?

  • Kayak only — if you already own a rowing system, or you want to paddle first and add rowing later.
  • + RowMotion® complete rowing set — kayak, monorail with sliding seat and foot stretcher, deep outrigger and a pair of partable carbon sculls. Classic reverse sculling, and the better value of the two.
  • + RowVista® complete rowing set — the same, with the forward-rowing outrigger and RowVista® linkage sculls. You face where you are going, which is worth the difference in coastal water and boat traffic.

Both sets are priced below the cost of buying the kayak and the rowing system separately.

How rigid is it, and how long does it take to inflate?

Side chambers and floor are Double Layer Drop Stitch with a PVC skin over the hull, held at 10 PSI, which is what lets a 4.85 m inflatable carry 250 kg without hinging. Filling sponges keep grit out of the chambers. Inflation takes under five minutes with the supplied high-pressure pump, and the screw-type relief valve empties it quickly. The fin is an 8″ hard fin in a quick-release box with a non-detachable safety wedge.

Shipping and delivery

Authorised ROWonAIR® dealer

28GOODS is listed as an official ROWonAIR® and XCAT dealer on the manufacturer's dealer map at coastalrowingforce.com. Every boat is supplied new in Row&Sail's own packing and carries the manufacturer's 2-year warranty against fabrication defects (wear parts excluded). We order spare fins, valves, seats, sculls and rowing-system parts directly from Row&Sail GmbH in Austria, so a repair does not mean replacing the boat.
