Who this bike suits

  • Good for: riders who mostly climb. The TCR is Giant's lightweight all-rounder rather than an aero frame, and in a city built on hills that is usually the more useful bike. Disc brakes make a real difference on long wet descents.
  • Less suitable for: riders chasing flat-out speed on flat roads or in fast groups — the aero Propel is quicker there for the same effort. Riders who want electronic shifting will need to look further up the range.

TCR or Propel — which for Hong Kong?

Both use the same Advanced-Grade Composite construction, so the choice is about terrain rather than quality:

  • TCR is lighter and designed as an all-rounder. It rewards climbing, and it is the better bike if your regular rides include Route Twisk, Tai Mo Shan or the Sai Kung hills.
  • Propel is the aero platform. It earns its keep at sustained speed on the flats — Tolo Harbour, the Tai Po to Tai Mei Tuk cycle track, and fast group riding.

For most Hong Kong riders splitting their time between the two, the TCR is the safer choice. It is also the cheaper one at HK$17,800 against HK$21,800 for the equivalent Propel Advanced 2 build.

Riding in Hong Kong

Two practical points specific to riding here:

  • Humidity and sweat corrode drivetrains fast. Rinse and dry after wet rides and re-lube the chain more often than a European service schedule suggests. Hydraulic discs are a genuine advantage in summer downpours and on long descents.
  • Storage. A full-size road bike is roughly 175 x 105 cm with the front wheel on. Check lift access and whether your building permits bikes in common areas before delivery — many Hong Kong estates do not.

Frequently asked questions

What sizes is the TCR Advanced 2 KOM available in?

Availability differs by colour: Polar Night comes in XS (42.5 cm), S (44.5 cm) and M (47 cm); Pearl White / Purple comes in XS, S, M and ML (50 cm). If you need ML, Pearl White is the only option. Note that TCR sizing runs smaller in stated centimetres than the Propel range — compare the size letter, not the number.

What is the difference between the TCR and the Propel?

The TCR is Giant's lightweight all-rounder, tuned for climbing and all-day riding. The Propel is the aero platform, tuned for sustained speed on flat roads. Both use Advanced-Grade Composite construction. In Hong Kong's hilly terrain the TCR is the more broadly useful bike, and it costs less.

Does the TCR Advanced 2 KOM have disc brakes?

Yes — Shimano 105 HRD hydraulic disc brakes with SM-RT64 rotors, front and rear thru-axles.

Is it tubeless ready?

Yes. It ships with Giant Gavia Course 0 tubeless folding tyres in 700x28C on the Giant P-R1 Disc wheelset.

Are pedals included?

No. Pedals are not supplied, which is standard at this level.

What size should I buy?

Frame size is the one thing worth getting right rather than guessing. Contact us with your height and inseam before ordering and we will advise.

Is delivery free in Hong Kong?

Yes. Bikes are delivered free in Hong Kong with no minimum order. Delivery to the outlying islands is not included — please contact us for a quote.
