The MOJO 18 is the fast one. At 5.49 m long and 66 cm wide it is the narrowest of ROWonAIR's flat-deck rowing boards, which makes it the quickest per stroke and the one experienced scullers keep coming back to. It weighs 13.1 kg on its own, 18 kg with the pump, fins, strap and backpack, and it takes 220 kg — enough for a rower and a passenger, or double sculls.
MOJO 18 or DUDE 18 — which should you buy?
Ten centimetres of width decides it. The MOJO is 66 cm and the DUDE is 76 cm, on the same 5.49 m hull. The MOJO carries less wetted area, holds a higher cruising speed for the same effort, and rewards a clean finish; the DUDE stands up better when you stop rowing, carries 250 kg instead of 220 kg, and is the one to buy if a passenger will be aboard regularly or you are still learning to balance. If you have rowed a single before, take the MOJO.
How fast is it really, and why?
Two features do the work. The front half of the hull has a 4° V-bottom rather than a flat panel, so the board cuts rather than slaps, and there is a rocker line through the hull that lifts the bow as speed builds. Rigidity is the other half of the answer: Woven-Fusion Drop Stitch at 14 PSI means the board does not hinge in the middle under a hard drive, which is what costs an inflatable its speed. Three fins — one 7.7″ rear and two 2.4″ forward — hold the line so you are not steering with the blades.
How well does it pack down?
Into 75 × 45 × 40 cm, which is smaller than the DUDE's 85 cm case, and into a nylon backpack with wheels and padded straps. Inflation takes under nine minutes with the supplied high-pressure pump; a large screw-type relief valve empties it in a fraction of that. This is a 5.49 m boat you can keep in a Hong Kong flat and fly with as checked baggage.
Which rowing system fits it?
The Flat Outrigger version of either system — RowVista® for forward rowing with blade feathering, or RowMotion® for classic reverse sculling. Both hook into the pre-mounted D-rings and tension with a strap; assembly is about two minutes with no tools. The board is also compatible with the same skids fitted to a hard-shell SUP, so a system bought now moves to your next boat. Rowing systems are sold separately.
