TEMO OUTPOD·1000 Pack — 1.3 kW Electric Pod Motor for Sailboats to 9 m
The OUTPOD·1000 is TEMO's answer for sailboat owners who want pod-drive performance without cutting a hole in the hull. The 12 kg motor unit hangs on the transom like an outboard and slides up its own mast when you don't need it, so nothing stays submerged between passages. It is rated for sailboats up to 9 metres, produces 30 kg of static thrust from a 1,300 W brushless motor, and has no gearbox to service.
How is an OUTPOD different from a fixed pod?
A conventional pod drive is bolted through the hull. It gives clean hydrodynamics but commits you to a hole below the waterline, a haul-out to fit, and a permanently wet drive unit. The OUTPOD keeps the pod's efficient direct-drive thrust line and remote throttle but mounts externally on a sliding mast. That means no hull penetration, installation without a shipyard, and the ability to lift the whole unit off for rinsing, winter storage or a delivery trip. If your boat is a mooring-kept cruiser rather than a new build, this is usually the version that makes sense.
What comes in the pack, and what still needs buying?
The pack is the propulsion side of the system: the 1,300 W motor, the transom fitting, the remote throttle and a 1-inch monochrome display. Batteries are not included. TEMO's SEASIDE range runs on 48 V 2.3 kWh cassettes weighing 12 kg each that rack and parallel together, so you size the bank to the boat rather than accepting a fixed capacity. TEMO estimate about 2 hours 50 minutes of running from one 2.3 kWh battery at 1,100 W. The architecture is semi-open, so approved partner batteries also work, and TEMO can supply the system battery-free if your boat already has a 48 V bank. Can it charge from solar or hydrogeneration?
Yes. The whole SEASIDE system is designed around 48 V, and TEMO build it to work with solar charging and hydrogeneration rather than treating them as add-ons. On a sailboat that regularly makes passage under sail, regenerating on the way and topping up from panels at anchor is what turns a fixed battery capacity into something closer to self-sufficiency. It is the single strongest argument for electric auxiliary on a cruising yacht.
How much maintenance does it need?
TEMO specify no maintenance before 1,500 engine hours. The motor is brushless direct drive — no gearbox, no oil change, no impeller — and sealing is by mechanical shaft seals rather than anything you service seasonally. The housing is aluminium and the standard propeller is fibre-reinforced plastic. In practice the routine is rinsing with fresh water after salt-water use and checking the propeller for fishing line, which is why being able to lift the whole pod out matters more than it first appears.

This pack contains no battery, so it is not restricted lithium freight — but it is a bulky item and we ship it by sea, typically 30–50 days internationally.
