The POD·3000 in its fixed version is a 3,100 W through-hull electric drive for boats up to 12 metres, producing 67 kg of static thrust through a 29 cm two-blade propeller. The pod sits below the hull on a fixed strut, the boat's own rudder steers, and nothing intrudes on the transom or the accommodation. It is the version specified most often on new builds and on refits where the boat is already coming out of the water.
What does a 3.1 kW pod actually deliver on a 12 m boat?
Enough to motor a displacement cruiser at hull speed in calm conditions and to hold way against a moderate head sea, which puts it in the same working envelope as a small diesel auxiliary. The advantages you notice daily are the ones electric drives are good at: instant torque from rest, silence, no exhaust, no fuel filters, no winterising a raw-water circuit. Direct drive also removes the mechanical losses of a gearbox, so more of the energy in the bank reaches the water. The constraint is battery capacity, which is a design decision rather than a fixed number — TEMO's own 10 m dayboat reference configuration uses two 2.3 kWh cassettes with a 3 kW fixed pod.
How does a fixed pod compare with the OUTPOD·3000?
A fixed pod is hydrodynamically cleaner and completely out of sight, and it puts the weight lower and more central than a transom-hung OUTPOD. Against that, it is a permanent hole below the waterline, needs a yard to install, and the drive leg stays wet and needs antifouling. Choose fixed if the boat is being built or refitted; choose the OUTPOD if you want to fit a motor to a boat on a mooring without a haul-out.
What's included and what has to be specified separately?
The pack covers the 3,100 W motor, the hull fitting, the remote throttle, a distribution box for the higher current, and a 1-inch monochrome display. Only the motor unit sits in the water and cools naturally; the batteries and control electronics stay inside the boat, with just the throttle and display at the helm. Batteries are not included. The SEASIDE system uses 48 V 2.3 kWh cassettes weighing 12 kg each that rack and parallel, and the architecture is semi-open so approved partner batteries can be used — worth knowing if the boat already carries a 48 V house bank. Solar charging and hydrogeneration are both supported. Because a 3.1 kW motor draws down capacity quickly, get the bank sized before you commit; we will do that with you.
